Kochi is a city with a glorious history. Early before the 14th century, Kochi was just a little village. But the great flood occurred in river Periyar has turned Kochi into a major trade hub, where Kodungalloor of Thrissur district had that place before. The natural harbor formed at the Ernakulam region slowly attracted traders to Kochi. The old Kochi included a group of islands including Willingdon Island and Fort Kochi. Kochi was the center of Indian spice trade for hundreds of years. After the port of Kodungalloor was destroyed by the massive flood on 1341 by the river Periyar, Kochi became the major trading center in the world trading map. Then eventually Kochi became the commercial hub of Kerala.
Kochi played a vital role in the increased trading activities across the sea in India. The Willington island and Kochin port were constructed at the time of the British rule.
Kochi now is the commercial head of Kerala, with large no of job opportunities. Kochi have become the city of apartments with the large no of the population at Kochi.
